The UNWTO Education Council (UNWTO.EdC) is made up of leading tourism education, training and research institutions as well as business schools worldwide which have obtained the UNWTO.TedQual Certification for at least one of their tourism education programmes. With over 100 members it forms a chapter of the UNWTO Affiliate Members, and is well represented in the Board of the Affiliates, its decision-making body. The UNWTO.Edc is an active agent within UNWTO and in the development and implementation of the UNWTO.EKM Programme of work
What is the Education Council (UNWTO.EdC)?
Mission.
To support the mission of the UNWTO Education, Training and Knowledge Management programme and to facilitate and promote development of new knowledge for the advancement of sustainable tourism worldwide.

UNWTO.Tourism Labour Market Observatory
This programme was recently initiated by the UNWTO Education Council in conjunction with UNWTO.EKM and the UNWTO Destination Task Force. Its objective is to obtain quantitative and qualitative information on tourism labour markets in key destinations worldwide through panels of employers, workers, consumers and students. UNWTO Ulysses Awards for Innovation and the Application of Knowledge in Tourism.
These awards are granted every two years at the UNWTO General Assembly to those Governments, destinations, companies and institutions which have distinguished themselves in the Innovation and Application of Knowledge in Tourism. Administration of these awards is conducted by the UNWTO.EdC and the UNWTO.EKM. More Information
Annual UNWTO.EdC Conference.
This is organized by UNWTO.EKM and the UNWTO.EdC on a topic of current relevance and interest in tourism. It is held in odd years at the UNWTO General Assembly and in even years on the occasion of the UNWTO Education General Meeting.
UNWTO.EdC Research Initiatives. A variety of research projects on tourism destinations, sustainability and quality and efficiency aimed at enhancing the tourism knowledge of UNWTO Member States

How to join
To join the UNWTO Education Council the institution should submit at least one of its tourism education programmes to the TedQual certification. This is a quality audit carried out by an independent auditing company, the results of which are submitted to the UNWTO Certification Committee for approval of the programme submitted. Upon obtaining the UNWTO·TedQual certification and confirming its status as a UNWTO Affiliate Member the institution becomes a member of the UNWTO Education Council.
